Reasons Why You Need to Start Playing Golf

Often called the gentleman’s game, golf is one of those sports that very few appreciate. The idea of propelling a small ball into a series of holes is not so fascinating to some people. We will look at some amazing benefits of playing this outdoor sport.

1.      Explore the outdoors

Studies have shown that exposing yourself to the outdoor environment comes with a myriad of health benefits. You get to experience the fresh air and reduce stress and anxiety in your system. Exposing yourself to the sunshine also benefits the body by allowing it to consume vitamin D from the sun. The risk of heart disease and ailments like cancers can be greatly reduced by participating in outdoor sports like golf.

2.      Great opportunity to socialize

If you are looking for a healthy way to keep in touch with your friends and even connect with new people, head on to the golf course. Golf is not a very intense game like soccer or basketball and it gives you and other players a great opportunity to connect. It’s no wonder businessmen prefer playing golf with their partners and prospects. They are able to close business deals as they enjoy the sport.

3.      Strengthens the leg muscles

If you are looking for a sport that can help you do some leg exercises, golf can be a great option. The movements you make when throwing the strokes gives your muscles some workout. Golfing can also help you to strengthen the bladder because you learn to hold the sensation of frequenting the washroom when you’re at the golf course.

4.      Boost heart health

Physicians usually recommend exercises that help to keep the heart rate up. Golf is one such exercise that is not very intense and can give your heart a bit of exercise. The constant walking and swinging helps to enhance your blood flow and lower the risk of heart attack.

5.      Good for your mental health

Golf can keep your brain well stimulated. The game involves competing with each other which helps to also boost self-esteem and confidence. The mental activity involved when playing golf helps to keep the brain active and boost cognitive functions.

6.      Low risk of getting an injury

Golf is probably one of the safest sports you can play. Other than the constant walking and swinging, there is really no intense activity that can put you at risk of getting an injury. It’s a very safe sport that can still help to keep your muscles active. It may be a suitable pastime for people with mobility issues or health concerns that limit the kind of physical activities they can participate in.

7.      Stress reduction

The game of golf can really help to alleviate stress. The fact that you are in an outdoor area is enough to keep you in a good mood. The body releases endorphins which are natural mood-enhancing chemicals that make you feel more relaxed when engaged in an outdoor activity. It’s one great way to keep yourself worry-free.

Reasons to Incorporate Golfing in Your Lifestyle

Golf is one of those outdoor sports few people consider incorporating in their lifestyle. But there are many who appreciate the so called gentleman’s game. Some play golf as a form of exercise, others to reduce stress and socialize. Here are 7 good reasons to play golf on a regular basis.

1.      Socialize
If you are looking for a healthy way to socialize and foster relationships, try golfing. Golf, unlike other highly intense and competitive sports, provides a lot of room to engage with people while enjoying the game. You get to learn from fellow golfers and improve your skill.

2.      Destress
Playing golf allows your body to relax by releasing the mood enhancing chemicals in the brain known as endorphins. Because the game is practiced outdoors, you are able to interact with nature, enjoy the fresh air as you spend quality time with friends and family. Playing a round of golf can alleviate stress because it allows the brain to focus on a more relaxing activity.

3.      Enhance heart health
Sports like golf are highly recommended because they provide a form of exercise for your heart. As you walk, swing and carry your equipment along the course, your heart keeps pumping and this increases blood flow to the rest of the body. The enhanced blood flow helps to reduce risks of heart disease and also bad cholesterol. It’s one of those outdoor activities that improve your physical health.

4.      As a form of exercise
Some people have played golf as a form of exercise to burn extra calories and maintain physical fitness. With golfing comes a lot of walking which gives your muscles a good workout. You can walk 5 to 7 kilometers when golfing and this provides you the workout you’ll need to stay fit. If you carry your equipment as you walk, you are able to burn more calories and strengthen your muscles. Practicing golf 2 to 3 times a week can be a great form of exercise.

5.      Improve your vision
When golfing, you have to be keen when striking the white ball. Good vision is important because it helps you to focus on your target. You are going to learn how to target small holes in very long distances before taking a swing. With this, you are able to evaluate your vision and also improve hand-eye coordination.

6.      Golf is generally safe
Unlike most contact sports, golf has a very low risk of injury. This kind of sport requires one to be well coordinated and accurate. The only physical activity that is required when playing golf is the swinging and pivoting which doesn’t risk serious injury. It gives you an opportunity to enjoy a game that’s safe and fun.

7.      Health benefits for the mind and body

Golf courses can cover up to 200 acres of land.  Throughout, players are exposed to the outdoors and get to enjoy the benefits of this exposure. The body can absorb vitamin D from the sun as well as reduce the risk of depression and heart disease because of exposure to the outdoors.

Golf Tips For Beginners In The Game

Golf is a fun and relaxing game for people of all ages. It is also a social game so you get to bond with your friends and meet new ones too. Learning golf is not too difficult; a couple of rounds on the course and you will be whacking a hole-in-one in no time. You can probably get a lot of tips from the instructor at the golf course but in case you do not have one just yet, here are a few things you should keep in mind going into the game:

Aiming

Your entire body including your feet, knees, hips, shoulders and the clubface should be part of your aim when preparing to hit the gold ball. People often think that if you are right handed and aim right the ball will go right, however the swing often compensates for poor alignment. Therefore you need to think about the entire swing when aiming.

Solid stance and posture

You play gold while standing and your stance will determine how much effort you will put into your swing, You need to build the swing from the ground up. This is why you need a wide, solid and stable stance that is well balanced on both feet. Your swinging posture greatly determines the accuracy of your shot. You need to develop a perfect posture by tilting at your hips and not your waist when you take a swing. Once you get the stance and posture correctly, the rest will be a breeze.

Gripping the club

A weak grip can cause a lot of nasty accidents on the golf course. It is also important to have a good grip for a strong and steady swing. You should practice holding your club correctly even when you are not playing. You should consider carrying your club home and practice your hold every time you walk past it in the house so your hands can get used to the correct gripping position.

Use the driving range

You should practice in the driving range sessions before you go on to the gold course. Most range sessions usually take about fifty balls lasting for at least thirty minutes. Every ball should get two practice swings. These sessions will help you apply the aiming, stance, posture and grip before you start playing on the course.

Start with the lofted club

The lofted club is the best club to use as a beginner when practicing your stance and swing. It helps improve your posture and get a cleaner strike at the ball. Seeing your ball take a nice high flight can help build your confidence on the course.

Practice with all your clubs

In golf, a player is allowed a combination of 14 clubs in their set of clubs. You should become familiar with how to use all these clubs before you can play a game and stand a chance of winning. You should start practicing with your pitching wedge and continue mastering each of the clubs in the set until you are comfortable using all of them. You should learn the driver last because it is quite a difficult club to use.
